The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world.
— Dr. Paul Farmer
Dr. Eugene’s dream for a hospital was built on story after heart-wrenching story.
As a doctor working at small clinics in northern Haiti, Dr. Eugene watched as his fellow Haitians suffered due to lack of medical care. A father lost five children because they were poisoned, and the hospital was two hours away. A mother spent years trying to get pregnant, only to lose her child because the midwife did not properly handle the umbilical cord.
He knew there was a better way.
Your support brings healing to babies like Frankson.
Frankson was 18-months-old when he developed a cough and a fever. His mother knew she couldn’t afford treatment, but even if she could, there was no clinic in her town. She and Frankson live in a rural area of Northern Haiti that not even motorbikes can reach.
Then, she heard about New Hope Hospital and made the journey there. At most hospitals in Haiti, she would be denied care before a doctor even saw her son because she couldn’t pay. But because of the generosity of donors like you, Frankson’s mother was able to see a doctor and receive treatment at New Hope Hospital. Frankson is now healthy and well, all because of your support.
Since New Hope Hospital opened its doors in October 2016, thousands of Haitians now have access to medical care.
The stories of needless death or lack of access to care now have a different ending. Lives are being saved rather than lost. Nevertheless, struggles remain.
New Hope Needs You. Each morning, Dr. Eugene prays that he will have enough funds to sustain the hospital’s daily operations. Because New Hope commits to serving any patient in need, even if they can’t pay upfront, Dr. Eugene relies on supporters like you to sustain this life-saving work.
